Alexandra Eala, the 17th seed and world No. 18, faces American qualifier Mary Stoiana (No. 122) in the US Open first round on hard courts at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Eala enters with strong recent hard-court momentum, including her first WTA title in Washington and consistent results through the North American swing, while Stoiana makes her Grand Slam main-draw debut after three qualifying wins and a solid college background at Texas A&M. Eala leads their head-to-head 1-0 from a 2024 hard-court encounter. The significant ranking and experience gap shapes trader consensus around Eala’s favored position, though Stoiana’s recent form on the surface offers realistic underdog potential in what remains an unpredictable opening-round matchup.
