Bencic enters this US Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite, holding the No. 12 ranking and posting a 27-11 record in 2026 with strong hard-court results. Putintseva, ranked outside the top 80, has struggled with consistency, managing just 11-10 on hard this season and dropping four of her last five matches before arriving in New York. Their head-to-head stands at 3-3, though they have not met since 2023. Bencic’s recent hip issue, which forced a Toronto withdrawal, remains the primary uncertainty, yet her successful mixed-doubles run at the Open suggests improved fitness. Hard-court conditions and Bencic’s superior ball-striking and recent momentum shape trader expectations for the outcome.
