Anastasia Potapova, the No. 24 seed ranked around No. 25, faces Tereza Valentova in a US Open first-round hard-court match. Potapova holds a clear ranking and experience edge on the surface but enters with fitness questions after withdrawing from Monterrey with a back issue and posting straight-set losses to Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati and Elina Svitolina in Toronto. Valentova, a 19-year-old ranked near No. 57, arrives in strong recent form after reaching the Philadelphia WTA 125 final, where she secured multiple wins on hard courts, though she has yet to defeat a seeded player at this level. With no prior head-to-head and Potapova’s serve-return profile still generally superior, trader consensus reflects the seeded player’s higher implied probability despite the injury uncertainty and Valentova’s momentum.
