Jessica Pegula enters the US Open third round as the clear favorite against Leylah Fernandez, backed by her No. 3 world ranking, 47-12 record in 2026, and dominant hard-court form that includes finals in Washington and Cincinnati plus straight-set wins over Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Sofia Kenin. The American leads the head-to-head 3-1, highlighted by a recent 6-2, 6-2 victory in Miami on the same surface. Fernandez, the No. 31 seed, has advanced with efficient straight-set victories but carries a more modest overall season record and faces a stylistic challenge against Pegula’s consistent serving and return pressure. Trader consensus reflects these gaps in ranking, recent results, and matchup history while noting Fernandez’s left-handed game and prior US Open deep runs as sources of realistic upset potential on outdoor hard courts.
