Naomi Osaka enters this US Open first-round matchup as the No. 13 seed with a strong hard-court record and two prior titles at the event, while Anastasia Zakharova, ranked outside the top 100, makes a main-draw appearance against a significant experience gap. Osaka arrives after reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals, Washington semifinals, and Toronto quarterfinals in 2026, opting for rest ahead of New York rather than competing in Cincinnati. The pair has no prior head-to-head, but Osaka’s superior ranking, serve power on hard courts, and history of advancing deep in Grand Slams position her as the clear consensus favorite in trader pricing. Zakharova’s recent results have been confined largely to lower-tier events, limiting her immediate threat level on this surface.
