Fiona Ferro enters this US Open women's singles qualifying first-round match on hard courts as the clear favorite based on her stronger 2026 results and ranking near 146 compared to Rebecca Marino's position around 380. Ferro has compiled a 28-15 record this season, highlighted by a WTA 125 title in Oeiras and a runner-up finish in Palermo, giving her momentum heading into the North American swing despite the surface change from clay. Marino, a 35-year-old veteran, sits at just 5-4 for the year and has shown limited recent success at this level. Their head-to-head history is minimal, shifting focus to current form, ranking disparity, and the best-of-three format typical of grand slam qualifying. Weather or minor injury concerns could still influence the outcome on outdoor hard courts.
