Tatjana Maria holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge over Dayana Yastremska, including a straight-sets win on hard courts, giving the veteran German a clear stylistic and historical edge in their first-round Cincinnati Open clash on outdoor hard. Maria, ranked 80 and coming off nine days of rest after a mixed hard-court swing that included a Toronto loss to McNally, enters with stronger recent match volume and seven wins in her last 10 outings. Yastremska, ranked 87, has not competed in 43 days amid fitness concerns, limiting her preparation despite a WTA 125 title earlier in 2026 and a third-round run at this event last year before withdrawal. The Ukrainian's youth and power provide upset potential on a fast surface, but the extended layoff and Maria's proven record against her shape trader consensus around a narrow favorite edge for the 39-year-old.
