Claire Liu holds a clear edge in this US Open qualifying matchup on hard courts, driven by her superior WTA ranking near 111-114 and status as the No. 6 seed compared to Heather Watson’s position around 443-445. Liu, a 26-year-old American, enters with strong momentum from a 2026 W75 title in Trnava, a Wimbledon third-round appearance, and consistent qualifying success at majors, while Watson, a 34-year-old veteran, faces challenges maintaining form at her current ranking level. Home-crowd support and recent Grand Slam experience further bolster Liu’s positioning in trader consensus, though Watson’s doubles ranking and prior hard-court resilience could influence extended rallies if the match reaches a deciding set. Qualifying advancement hinges on one win here, with no reported injuries altering lineups.
