Katie Boulter enters this US Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite over Carol Young Suh Lee, reflecting her higher ranking near No. 60, recent Ostrava Open title, and greater main-tour experience on hard courts. Boulter, a 30-year-old Brit with a career-high of No. 23, brings proven results against stronger opposition despite some recent inconsistencies. Lee, the 24-year-old American ranked No. 143, arrives with strong momentum from a WTA 125 title in Poland and solid ITF/Challenger form, though her limited exposure at Grand Slam level and lower-tier results create a significant gap in pedigree. The hard-court surface favors Boulter’s established baseline game and return pressure in what projects as a competitive opener on Court 5.
