Caty McNally enters this US Open first-round match as the clear favorite due to her higher ranking (around No. 64-65) and greater experience in Grand Slams, including multiple second-round appearances at Flushing Meadows, while Anouk Koevermans makes her main-draw debut as a qualifier ranked near No. 228-229. McNally has posted a mixed but competitive 2026 hard-court record with several deep runs earlier in the season and strong results against lower-ranked opponents. Koevermans arrives with positive momentum after three straight-set qualifying wins, including tiebreak victories, despite limited prior tour-level success and a recent back injury that limited her earlier expectations. The outdoor hard-court conditions and absence of prior head-to-head matches further highlight McNally’s edge in consistency and return pressure, though Koevermans’ recent form offers underdog potential in an early-round encounter.
