Sofia Kenin and Eva Lys meet in the Cincinnati Open first round on outdoor hard courts, with both players carrying poor 2026 hard-court records that shape the matchup. Ranked No. 85, Lys holds a modest edge over Kenin at No. 118 and leads composite form metrics despite her own 2-5 hard-court mark and earlier physical setbacks that forced lucky-loser status. Kenin enters on a three-match skid and a 1-10 hard-court tally, far from her former major-winning level, though her wild-card entry and potential home-crowd energy could factor in. This first career meeting on a fast surface favors the higher-ranked player in baseline rallies, yet inconsistent recent results and first-round volatility keep outcomes uncertain.
