Maja Chwalinska enters the Ningbo Open first-round matchup against Katarzyna Kawa on hard courts as the clear favorite, buoyed by a career-best run that culminated in her first WTA 1000 title at the Wuhan Open on October 18. The world No. 22 left-hander has won eight of her last 10 matches, including victories over Iga Swiatek and Maria Sakkari, while demonstrating strong hard-court form and improved consistency. Kawa, ranked No. 127 at age 33, secured her main-draw spot via qualifying with straight-set wins marred by opponent retirements, but her overall 2026 hard-court results remain limited and she trails significantly in ranking and recent momentum. Their lone prior meeting dates to 2018 on clay. Short turnaround after Chwalinska's Wuhan final could introduce fatigue considerations, though her current trajectory and head-to-head stylistic edge on the surface shape trader consensus around a lopsided implied probability.
