Iva Jovic enters the Wuhan Open round of 16 as the clear favorite against Maja Chwalinska, backed by her career-high WTA ranking of No. 11, recent Guadalajara title defense, and strong hard-court form with seven wins in her last eight matches. The 18-year-old American dispatched Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 6-1 in the prior round and holds a significant edge in recent hard-court results. Chwalinska, ranked No. 22, reached this stage via a resilient 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 comeback over Marie Bouzkova after earlier wins over Mayar Sherif, building on her Singapore semifinal run during the Asian swing. This marks their first meeting on outdoor hard courts, where Jovic’s consistency and attacking opportunities figure to test the Pole’s left-handed game and recent momentum.
