Francesca Jones, the third seed and world No. 104, enters this US Open women's singles qualifying second-round match on outdoor hard courts after a straight-sets 6-3, 6-4 win over Nuria Brancaccio. The 25-year-old Briton holds a significant ranking edge over 36-year-old Mona Barthel (No. 204), who advanced past Whitney Osuigwe in three sets. Jones reached a career-high of No. 65 earlier in 2026 and has posted strong recent results, though her hard-court record remains more modest than her clay success. Barthel, a former top-25 player with four WTA titles, brings experience but faces the challenge of her current ranking and age in this first meeting between the two. The outcome hinges on Jones maintaining her qualifying momentum against Barthel's veteran serve and court coverage.
