Liudmila Samsonova holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge over Maya Joint, including a hard-court victory in Toronto earlier this month, giving her momentum into their US Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts. Samsonova, ranked around No. 47, has shown improved consistency after early-season struggles, advancing to the quarterfinals in Washington and the third round at Wimbledon and Toronto while demonstrating reliable first-round results at Flushing Meadows in recent years. Joint, ranked No. 72 after dropping from a career-high No. 28, posted an 11-21 record in 2026 with a prolonged losing streak earlier in the season, though she recently captured a doubles title in Monterrey and reached the second round in her prior two US Open appearances. Samsonova’s greater power and experience against top-50 opponents position her as the stronger hard-court threat in this encounter.
