Nikola Bartunkova enters the US Open first-round matchup against Mayar Sherif as the higher-ranked player at approximately No. 38-39, reflecting her strong 2026 hard-court results that include wins over Bianca Andreescu and Clara Tauson. The 20-year-old Czech reached the Monterrey semifinals with consistent break-point conversion before falling to Elise Mertens, building momentum on the surface ahead of Flushing Meadows. Sherif, ranked around No. 49-51, brings greater experience at age 30 but exited early in Monterrey and has focused more on clay success this season, including an Iasi title. The hard-court conditions and Bartunkova's recent form and ranking edge shape trader consensus on the outcome.
