Paula Badosa faces Antonia Ruzic in the round of 32 at the 2026 Kinoshita Group Japan Open on outdoor hard courts in Osaka. The higher-ranked Spaniard (around No. 58-61) enters with a stronger 2026 record and recent deep runs, while the Croatian (No. 91-93) has struggled with consistency and a sub-.500 win rate. Badosa leads their head-to-head 1-0 after a straight-sets victory in Beijing last year. She is competing without her former coach after parting ways following an early exit in China, relying instead on a sparring partner for support. The match offers Badosa an opportunity to build ranking points late in the season on a surface that suits her game.
