Xinyu Wang enters this US Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite due to her higher WTA ranking of 41 compared to Emiliana Arango’s 84, along with a 2-0 head-to-head edge on hard courts, including a straight-sets win in Doha earlier this year. Wang has demonstrated stronger results against higher-ranked opponents over the past year and maintains a more consistent hard-court record. Arango, a Colombian right-hander, showed recent form by qualifying and upsetting Venus Williams in Cincinnati, but she struggles against top-50 players and holds a lower overall win rate on the surface. The outdoor hard-court conditions at Flushing Meadows further align with Wang’s baseline power and experience in Grand Slam settings.
