Ann Li enters the US Open first-round matchup against Antonia Ruzic as the clear favorite, seeded 29th with a WTA ranking near 28-30 compared to Ruzic’s position around 81-85. Li holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge on hard courts from a 2024 straight-sets win and brings recent hard-court momentum after reaching the Monterrey semifinals, despite a loss there and earlier exits in Cincinnati and Toronto. Ruzic has posted a 17-23 record in 2026 with multiple first-round defeats on hard courts and limited Grand Slam experience. The outdoor hard surface at the US Open aligns with Li’s stronger career results in American swing events, while Ruzic faces an uphill battle against the higher-ranked American in front of a home crowd.
