Ekaterina Alexandrova, the top seed and world No. 19, enters the Monterrey Open round of 16 on outdoor hard courts with a first-round bye and nine days of rest, leveraging strong prior results at the event including a 2025 final appearance. Clara Tauson, ranked No. 42, arrives after a three-set first-round win over Renata Zarazua that featured 11 aces, though she has limited recovery time. Alexandrova holds a superior hard-court win rate on the main tour and recent momentum from a Toronto quarterfinal run that included a victory over Aryna Sabalenka, while Tauson leads their head-to-head 2-0 from matches in 2021. Serving efficiency and baseline consistency will likely shape the outcome in this WTA 500 matchup.
