This market will resolve to "Yes" for each listed city that records measurable precipitation on August 22, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Measurable precipitation means 0.01 inches or more as reported by the PRECIPITATION (IN) figure in the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) for the city's station. A report of trace ("T") does not qualify. The PRECIPITATION (IN) figure measures total liquid-equivalent precipitation and does not distinguish between precipitation types. The observation period is the NWS climate day for each station: midnight to midnight local standard time. The final CLI report for a climate day is issued the following morning. Each city is an independent market. Any number of cities may resolve "Yes", including all of them or none of them. Resolution is based on the station's first published precipitation figure for the day. Subsequent revisions or corrections to the published data will not be considered; the first published value is final. If no figure has been published by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market is the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) for each city's station.
Dry conditions dominated much of the western and central United States on August 22, 2026, consistent with typical August climatology and long-range outlooks showing minimal precipitation across California and the Pacific Southwest. In contrast, National Weather Service data and model guidance highlighted elevated chances for scattered thunderstorms and showers across the eastern U.S., especially along the Florida-Georgia border and Southeast, driven by lingering moisture and weak frontal boundaries. Official precipitation reports from stations like San Francisco confirmed zero measurable rain, aligning with historical baselines of less than 0.1 inches for the date. Traders monitoring resolution criteria would focus on verified gauge observations rather than forecasts, with any late model revisions or quality-controlled NWS summaries representing the final data points before market settlement.
