The Minnesota Wild enter the 2026-27 season at 6-2-1 and atop the Central Division despite a rash of injuries sidelining key contributors including Brock Faber, Filip Gustavsson, Jared Spurgeon, Olli Maatta, Nico Sturm, and the Foligno brothers. This has elevated the roles of Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, and Quinn Hughes, whose production has powered a potent power play and strong home results. The Montreal Canadiens sit at 4-3-1 with recent overtime wins offset by road losses, hampered by their own lower-body issues for players like Mike Matheson. Historical dominance by Minnesota in the matchup adds context, though both clubs face demanding early schedules that could shift roster availability and momentum heading into any direct clash.
