New Mexico holds the top spot in Mountain West standings with a 2-0 conference mark and 5-1 overall record, driven by the nation’s best turnover margin and a dominant defense that has limited opponents to low scoring outputs. North Dakota State, Air Force, and Wyoming sit at 3-1 in league play, though NDSU suffered its first conference loss in a 13-7 upset to UNLV, which remains at 2-1 alongside San José State. The conference realignment has created a more open race heading into late October, with New Mexico hosting NDSU on October 24 as a pivotal early test. Remaining schedules, home-field advantages, and injury updates to key quarterbacks will shape which teams secure spots in the December 4 championship game.
