Republican incumbent Addison McDowell holds a strong position in North Carolina's 6th congressional district ahead of the November 2026 general election, reflected in the market's heavy weighting toward the Republican Party. The district, encompassing Davidson, Davie, and Rowan counties plus parts of Cabarrus, Forsyth, and Guilford, has leaned Republican in recent cycles, with McDowell winning 69 percent in 2024. Forecasters including Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball, and Decision Desk HQ rate the seat Solid or Likely Republican. McDowell advanced through the March 2026 Republican primary, while Democrat Cyril Jefferson secured his party's nomination. Recent polls show McDowell leading by narrow to moderate margins, consistent with the district's partisan baseline and limited Democratic momentum in this cycle. No major late developments have altered the competitive landscape.
