Jonathan Kuminga agreed to a two-year, roughly $12-13 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on August 26, 2026, including a player option in Year 2, according to multiple reports from ESPN, The Athletic, and league sources. The 23-year-old forward, who became an unrestricted free agent after the Atlanta Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option in late June following a midseason trade from the Golden State Warriors, chose Minnesota over reported interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers. Key drivers include the Timberwolves’ offer of an immediate starting power forward role alongside Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert on a Western Conference contender, combined with aggressive recruiting that featured direct involvement from Edwards and a four-hour in-person meeting with team president Tim Connelly. Kuminga prioritized the shorter-term deal and quicker path back to free agency over longer, higher-value offers that would have required sign-and-trade mechanics. With the agreement confirmed across credible outlets, trader consensus reflects near-certainty in the Timberwolves outcome; the only realistic shifts would stem from an unforeseen collapse of the deal prior to formal execution.
