DeMar DeRozan agreed to a one-year veteran minimum contract with the Denver Nuggets on August 21, 2026, shortly after the team traded restricted free agent Peyton Watson in a sign-and-trade to Cleveland amid second-apron salary constraints. Multiple reports confirm the six-time All-Star, waived by the Sacramento Kings in July to clear cap space, selected Denver for a meaningful role alongside Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon following direct recruitment from the core. Interest from the Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans, and Washington Wizards existed, yet DeRozan prioritized playoff contention over other options. Trader consensus reflects this confirmed commitment, though rare disruptions such as a failed physical or unexpected contract complications could theoretically reopen the market.
