Victor Wembanyama enters the 2026-27 season as the clear trader consensus favorite for Defensive Player of the Year at 70.1% implied probability after earning unanimous honors for 2025-26. The Spurs center led the league in blocks per game for a third straight season while anchoring a top-tier defense that ranked third in defensive rating, posting elite marks in block percentage, defensive box plus/minus, and contested shots. His rim protection and ability to deter drives remain unmatched among bigs, with recent preseason performances and league-wide GM polling reinforcing expectations of continued dominance. Contenders such as Chet Holmgren and Ausar Thompson sit far behind at single-digit probabilities, reflecting the gap in established impact and voter recognition from the prior campaign.
