The Yankees (80-61) and Padres (74-67) meet Saturday at Petco Park with both clubs in playoff contention, the Yankees holding a 3½-game lead for the top AL wild card and San Diego a half-game ahead of Arizona for the final NL spot. Carlos Rodón (4-3, 3.20 ERA) starts for New York against Robbie Ray (11-7, 3.14 ERA), pitting two veteran left-handers against lineups that have combined for strong power production led by Ben Rice and Fernando Tatis Jr. The Yankees own MLB’s lowest team ERA at 3.23 but enter after a 3-2 extra-innings loss Friday capped by Luis Campusano’s walk-off homer, while missing Aaron Judge and other key contributors to injury. San Diego’s home advantage and recent momentum in a tight wild-card race shape the immediate context for this matchup.
