Don Mattingly holds a dominant 91.8% implied probability in the Phillies’ managerial market after recent reports confirmed the club will remove his interim tag and install him as full-time skipper for 2027 following a midseason turnaround. Mattingly took over a 9-19 club in late April, posted a 79-55 mark the rest of the way to secure a wild-card berth, and earned strong backing from players and the front office led by president Dave Dombrowski. Multiple pursuits of Alex Cora failed, leaving the organization to favor internal continuity ahead of an uncertain offseason and potential work stoppage. While Mattingly’s two-year deal and familial connection as father of general manager Preston Mattingly solidify the consensus, an unforeseen shift in front-office direction or late external candidate emergence could still alter the outcome before an official announcement.
This market will resolve according to the person who is appointed as the next permanent manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. If no permanent manager is appointed by January 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other." Appointments of 'interim,' 'caretaker,' or other non-permanent managers will not impact this market's resolution. An announcement of a new permanent manager's appointment before this market's close date will immediately resolve this market to the corresponding option, regardless of when the announced appointment goes into effect. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Philadelphia Phillies; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
