Both Chicago teams remain in playoff contention during the late-August Crosstown Classic at Wrigley Field, with the White Sox holding first place in the AL Central at 65-59 while the Cubs sit at 73-53, 4.5 games back in the NL Central. The Cubs opened the series with a 7-5 extra-inning win capped by Pete Crow-Armstrong’s walk-off homer, underscoring their home strength and recent form. Key injuries shape the matchup: Chicago’s Dansby Swanson (oblique) and several relievers are sidelined, while the White Sox continue managing multiple pitching recoveries and catcher absences. Road performance, bullpen depth, and the remaining games’ pitching matchups will influence outcomes as both clubs push for postseason positioning.
