The Arizona Diamondbacks' dramatic 5-4 walk-off win over the Chicago Cubs on August 25, capped by rookie Ryan Waldschmidt's two-run homer in the ninth, marked their MLB-leading 40th comeback victory and pulled them within one game of the Padres for the final NL wild-card spot. The Cubs, at 76-57 and second in the NL Central, had taken a 4-0 lead before the D-backs rallied late; they had won the series opener 7-0 behind strong pitching. For the August 26 matchup at Chase Field, left-hander Matthew Boyd (8-2, 4.15 ERA) starts for Chicago against Eduardo Rodriguez (13-4, 2.61 ERA) for Arizona. The D-backs face ongoing roster challenges, including injuries and absences, while both clubs navigate late-season bullpen usage and playoff positioning.
