Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of Kaohsiung as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).
Lai Jui-lung holds the leading position in the Kaohsiung mayoral race as the Democratic Progressive Party nominee, with trader consensus reflecting his consistent polling advantage over Kuomintang candidate Ko Chih-en. Lai secured the DPP nomination in January 2026 after prevailing in the party primary against fellow legislators Chiu Yi-ying, Hsu Chih-chieh, and Lin Tai-hua. Multiple surveys from May through August 2026 show Lai ahead across districts and demographic groups, positioning him as the frontrunner ahead of the November 28 election. Ko Chih-en, selected by the KMT in late 2025, trails significantly but remains the main opposition contender in this southern city contest. Low probabilities for other listed names align with the absence of viable independent or third-party challenges at this stage.
