Marko Retelj, the 19-year-old Slovenian, faces 26-year-old Croatian Karlo Kajin in the opening round of the M25 Maribor on outdoor clay, their first meeting. Retelj holds a stronger 2026 clay record (11-7) and benefits from home-soil familiarity and recent qualifying success, though he dealt with an extended injury absence through mid-August. Kajin, ranked higher at approximately 1537, brings greater experience but enters with inconsistent results, including recent qualifying wins offset by main-draw losses on the surface. Both players compete at similar ITF levels with limited elite exposure, making recent match fitness, break-point conversion, and adaptation to Maribor conditions the primary variables likely shaping trader views on implied probabilities.
