Shu Muto, the 20-year-old Japanese player ranked around 1,354 in the ATP with a career high of 1,333, enters this ITF M15 Maanshan round-of-16 matchup after a straight-sets win over Xinyuan Xie in the prior round. Reiya Komagata, also Japanese but with a far lower ranking near 1,995 and limited professional experience after college tennis at Tulsa, advanced with victories over Alex Jones and Natthayut Nithithananont. Both players favor hard courts typical for this Chinese swing, where Muto’s stronger recent ITF results and higher ranking give him the clearer edge in form and consistency against an opponent still building professional momentum.
