Haruka Kaji enters as the higher-ranked player (No. 257–258) against Amandine Hesse (No. 415) in the first round of the W50 Kursumlijska Banja on clay. Kaji holds a stronger 2026 win-loss record overall (around 25–20 to 26–21) but has competed mostly on hard courts recently, with mixed results in North American events and limited clay exposure. Hesse, a 33-year-old with deeper clay-court experience, shows a 9–10 clay record this year and reached deeper stages in recent French ITF and Challenger events on the surface before arriving in Serbia. The clay surface and Hesse’s recent European clay schedule represent the main variables against Kaji’s ranking edge. No prior head-to-head exists, and both players sit outside the WTA top 200, making the outcome sensitive to current form, adaptation to the slow clay conditions, and any late fitness or travel factors from prior tournaments. Current market pricing reflects trader consensus around these factors rather than any single decisive edge.
