Political tensions stemming from the August 2026 Ceuta migration crisis have prompted left-wing parties in Portugal and Spain, including LIVRE and Sumar, to call for Morocco’s exclusion from the 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosting arrangement with Portugal and Spain. These non-binding motions cited human rights concerns, border management issues, and prior criticisms over Western Sahara policies, framing them as grounds to revisit the joint bid confirmed by FIFA in December 2024. Spain and Morocco continue competing over final venue selection, with Morocco advancing its new 115,000-seat Stade Hassan II near Casablanca while managing infrastructure protests and recent AFCON hosting duties. FIFA has yet to alter host status, though sustained diplomatic friction or further incidents could influence future evaluations of the three-nation setup.
