Nebraska entered the Halloween matchup at Memorial Stadium as a solid favorite thanks to its elite defense, which led the nation in third-down conversion rate allowed and ranked among the top 20 in total and scoring defense. The Huskers returned from a bye after narrow losses to Indiana and Oregon, with key contributors like running back Jamal Rule and defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel expected back to bolster a unit already strong against the pass. Washington faced significant quarterback uncertainty with Demond Williams Jr. recovering from a rib injury, forcing preparation for both him and starter Elijah Brown, while multiple running backs dealt with lingering ailments. Nebraska’s home environment and recent form against Big Ten opponents shaped trader consensus around its advantages in a tightly contested conference game.
