A presidential election is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 4, 2026. This market will resolve according to the listed candidate who receives the most valid votes in the first round of this election from Rio de Janeiro. Candidates will be primarily ranked by order of valid votes won in Rio de Janeiro. If two or more candidates are tied for any position, ties will be broken by alphabetical order of the candidates’ listed full names as they appear in this market. This market will resolve to the candidate that occupies the highest finishing position after applying this ranking. If the result of this election isn't known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Brazilian government, specifically the Superior Electoral Court (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, TSE) (e.g., https://dadosabertos.tse.jus.br/).

Flávio Bolsonaro, the Liberal Party senator from Rio de Janeiro and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, leads the market at 64% for first place in the state’s October 4 first-round vote. Traders price him well ahead of Lula (33.5%) and a long list of other declared or potential candidates clustered near even money or lower, reflecting his entrenched local base and the Bolsonaro family’s consistent strength in the state. Flávio’s positioning stems from his Senate tenure representing Rio, high name recognition, and endorsement by his father as the main opposition standard-bearer after Jair’s ineligibility. Recent national polling shows Lula ahead or tied in second-round scenarios, yet Rio-specific sentiment favors the right-wing challenger, consistent with historical patterns in the state. Lula’s campaign has emphasized job creation and economic measures, but these have not offset Flávio’s local appeal. Earlier 2026 developments—including May audio leaks linking Flávio to a controversial banker and a temporary family rift—briefly pressured his numbers nationally before reconciliation and party nomination in July. With the first round weeks away, the market implies Rio voters are expected to consolidate behind the local senator over national alternatives or fringe contenders.
