Recent submission of extensive documentation by Real Madrid has renewed focus on UEFA’s long-running investigation into Barcelona’s payments to former referees’ committee vice-president José María Enríquez Negreira. On October 1, 2026, UEFA confirmed receipt of a substantial dossier—reportedly around 50,000 pages—from the Spanish club and stated its ethics and disciplinary inspectors would assess the material as part of the ongoing review that began in early 2023. Barcelona maintains the probe was never closed, has received no new formal requests, and continues to obtain its UEFA license without issue while participating in European competitions. The Spanish criminal case, which overlaps with the UEFA matter, is expected to conclude its investigative phase by the end of 2026, with trial proceedings potentially starting in 2027. Any UEFA verdict or sanction decision, including possible exclusion from competitions, will likely depend on the outcome of domestic proceedings and review of the newly submitted evidence.
This market will resolve to "Yes" if a UEFA disciplinary body officially announces its decision on whether FC Barcelona breached UEFA's regulations in connection with FC Barcelona's payments to José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, or to companies linked to him (commonly referred to as the "Negreira case") by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". An official decision of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body or the UEFA Appeals Body on the merits of the case will count, whether it finds FC Barcelona in breach or clears the club, and regardless of whether it is later appealed. A decision on FC Barcelona's eligibility for UEFA club competitions on the basis of these payments, or a formal decision to close the proceedings, will also count. If decisions are announced in stages, the first qualifying decision will count. The opening, continuation, or suspension of an investigation or proceedings, reports or recommendations by the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors, interim or provisional measures, rulings by Spanish courts or any other body, and reports or leaks of an expected decision will not count. The resolution source for this market will be official information from UEFA or FC Barcelona; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
