Botic van de Zandschulp, ranked No. 38, enters the European Open first round on indoor hard courts in Brussels with strong recent momentum from a Shanghai Masters round-of-16 run that included victories over Alex Michelsen and Arthur Fils. The Dutch player holds a significant experience edge at ATP level against qualifier Clement Chidekh, ranked No. 152, who advanced through qualifying with wins over Gilles Arnaud Bailly and Gauthier Onclin. Chidekh has posted an impressive 51-24 record in 2026, largely on indoor hard, with multiple Challenger titles, but has limited main-draw ATP exposure. No prior head-to-head exists, and the surface favors consistent baseline play where van de Zandschulp’s higher ranking and recent form against stronger opposition shape the prevailing market view.
