James Duckworth enters this Winston-Salem Open first-round match as the clear favorite against qualifier Quinn Vandecasteele, backed by his ATP ranking of No. 86 and extensive experience compared to the American’s No. 483 standing and tour-level debut. Duckworth arrives after a mixed hard-court stretch that included a first-round win over J.J. Wolf in Cincinnati before a loss to Arthur Fery, while Vandecasteele secured his main-draw spot with comeback victories over Li Tu and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in qualifying. Their lone prior meeting ended in a straight-sets Duckworth win at a 2024 indoor Challenger. The outdoor hard courts at Wake Forest favor the veteran’s consistency, though Vandecasteele’s recent three-set resilience highlights the potential for competitive sets if he maintains serving pressure.
