Tom Gentzsch enters this US Open qualifying first-round match on hard courts holding the clear ranking edge at No. 145 after reaching a career high in mid-August 2026, while Pol Martin Tiffon sits at No. 209. The 22-year-old German has shown stronger recent momentum through Challenger-level results and consistent hard-court play, contrasting with Tiffon’s 27-year-old profile marked by limited 2026 wins and a retirement in July’s Umag qualifying. No prior head-to-head exists, but Gentzsch’s higher ranking, youth, and surface suitability underpin trader consensus favoring him as the implied probability leader in this best-of-three encounter. Outdoor conditions and potential fatigue from the qualifying schedule remain secondary variables that could influence later rounds if either advances.
