Keegan Smith holds a clear edge over Fajing Sun in the Guangzhou Challenger second round on outdoor hard courts, driven by a 100-spot ranking gap and stronger recent hard-court form. The American, currently at a career-high No. 196, defeated qualifier Max Purcell in straight sets in the opening round and reached the Jinan quarterfinals earlier in October, while Sun, ranked No. 296, has posted mixed results with early exits in several recent challengers. Smith’s 201 cm frame provides a notable serve and reach advantage against the 178 cm Sun, and the pair’s only prior meeting ended in a straight-sets win for Smith on hard in 2022. Local support for the Chinese player represents the main variable that could influence momentum, though Smith’s consistent results and higher-level experience position him as the consensus favorite among traders.
