Ben Shelton enters the US Open second round as the clear favorite against Hubert Hurkacz, backed by his No. 9 ranking, recent hard-court title defense in Montreal, and strong 2026 form that includes multiple deep runs and four titles across surfaces. The American rebounded from a poor first set in his opening match to defeat Tallon Griekspoor in four sets and benefits from home support on Arthur Ashe Stadium plus an elite serve that has produced 151 mph deliveries. Hurkacz, ranked No. 47 after a recent Challenger title in Cancun, brings big-serving prowess and ace totals but carries a poor US Open record with no prior advancement past the second round and mixed Masters results this summer. The pair has never met, setting up a power-serving matchup where Shelton’s consistency and surface edge shape trader consensus around a roughly 68-70% implied win probability for the American.
