Denis Shapovalov faces Karen Khachanov in the first round of the 2026 Rolex Paris Masters on indoor hard courts, a matchup shaped by Shapovalov’s recent return from injury and their head-to-head history. The Canadian posted a win over qualifier Remy Bertola in Basel before a straight-sets loss to Taylor Fritz, showing positive post-injury signs on the surface where he holds a 6-4 recent record. Khachanov, ranked higher at around No. 24, brings strong Paris pedigree after his 2018 title, 2023 quarterfinal, and 2024 semifinal, though he exited Vienna in the first round to Carlos Alcaraz following a quarterfinal run in Almaty. Shapovalov leads their head-to-head 2-0 in prior meetings that went the distance, yet Khachanov’s heavier serve and baseline consistency offer advantages in extended rallies on this court. Both players enter with six wins in their last ten matches, creating a tightly contested opener where recent form, return efficiency, and break-point conversion will likely decide advancement.
