Juncheng Shang enters this US Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts as the clear market favorite, with traders assigning him roughly 65% implied probability based on his career-high ranking of 47 and proven ability to upset higher-seeded opponents on the surface. The 21-year-old left-hander arrives with a 5-7 hard-court record in 2026 but showed strong form in Montreal, where he defeated Andrey Rublev en route to the third round before a straight-sets loss to Lorenzo Sonego in Cincinnati. Marco Trungelliti, the 36-year-old Argentine ranked 83, holds a 5-5 hard mark this season and reached the second round in Cincinnati after qualifying wins, yet carries a modest 3-9 main-draw hard-court record and limited prior success at the US Open, with his best result a second-round appearance in 2021. No prior head-to-head exists between the players.
