Juncheng Shang enters the Cincinnati Open first-round matchup against Lorenzo Sonego with recent momentum from an upset victory over Andrey Rublev in Montreal, though he fell to Luciano Darderi in the next round. The 21-year-old left-hander leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a straight-sets hard-court win in Hong Kong earlier this year. Sonego, ranked 88, arrives on a two-match losing streak, including a first-round exit in Montreal to Tallon Griekspoor, and has posted just two outdoor hard-court victories in 2026. While Sonego has more experience at the ATP 1000 event, Shang’s stylistic edge on hard courts and stronger recent results against higher-ranked opponents shape the current trader consensus favoring the Chinese player in this round-of-128 contest.
