Toby Samuel holds the clear edge in this US Open qualifying first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts, reflecting his higher ATP ranking near 113 and stronger recent trajectory compared to Francesco Maestrelli at approximately 166. Samuel reached the main draw at both the 2026 French Open and Wimbledon, posting a career-high ranking in early August, while Maestrelli has endured a dip with just one win in his last several outings and exits in recent hard-court qualifiers. The surface favors neither player dramatically, but Samuel’s serve and consistency on faster courts, combined with greater Grand Slam qualifying experience, underpin the market’s consensus around an 78% implied probability for the Briton. Late scratches or weather delays remain the primary variables that could shift the outcome in this closely scheduled encounter.
