Roman Safiullin enters this Winston-Salem Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts as the clear favorite, backed by his ATP ranking near 103 and a strong 2026 record exceeding 30 wins. The Russian reached the Wimbledon fourth round earlier in the year after qualifying, defeating higher-ranked opponents on grass before shifting to hard-court preparation ahead of the US Open. Hugo Grenier, ranked around 258 with a sub-.400 win rate this season and limited main-tour success, faces a significant step up in competition. Their limited head-to-head history and Safiullin's greater experience on the surface further shape the matchup, though late schedule timing and any fitness considerations could influence play.
