Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard enters the US Open first-round matchup on hard courts as the higher-ranked player but with inconsistent recent results, including early exits in Winston-Salem, Cincinnati, and Montreal. Jurij Rodionov arrives in stronger current form after a successful qualifying campaign that included victories over higher-ranked opponents and a solid recent hard-court record. The pair has no prior head-to-head, making serve efficiency, break-point conversion, and second-serve returns key differentiators on the fast outdoor surface. Rodionov’s momentum from three qualifying wins contrasts with Perricard’s ranking drop from a career-high near the top 30, creating a closely contested opener where recent hard-court performance and physical freshness could shift outcomes.
